Ghee Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average ghee import price stood at $5,629 per ton in July 2023, waning by -7.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,775 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($7,658 per ton), while the price for New Zealand stood at $5,361 per ton.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+1.3%).

Ghee Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023

The average ghee export price stood at $4,733 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -11.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 9.5% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,554 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($5,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($2,621 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghee Imports in Australia

Ghee imports into Australia surged to 8.2K tons in 2022, growing by 23% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ghee imports soared to $54M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 6.2K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, ghee exports stood at $31M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
