China Electric Generating Set And Rotary Converter Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the electric generating set and rotary converter price amounted to $1,160 per unit (FOB, China), picking up by 73% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price posted buoyant growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Russia ($4,435 per unit), while the average price for exports to Panama ($77.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+33.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was electric generating sets with compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine (diesel or semi-diesel engine) of an output over 375 kVA ($197K per unit), while the average price for exports of electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine ($219 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: electric generating sets, excluding those with spark-ignition or compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines, other than wind powered (+14.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, overseas shipments of electric generating sets and rotary converters decreased by -12.5% to 678K units, falling for the fourth month in a row after three months of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 17% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 916K units in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of electric generating sets and rotary converters surged to $787M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.9% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.3% against June 2022 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine (582K units) was the largest type of electric generating set and rotary converter exported from China, with a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine exceeded the volume of the second product type, electric generating sets, excluding those with spark-ignition or compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines, other than wind powered (27K units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by wind powered generating sets (8K units), with a 1.3% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine totaled -3.6%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: electric generating sets, excluding those with spark-ignition or compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines, other than wind powered (+6.1% per month) and wind powered generating sets (+10.6% per month).

In value terms, electric generating sets with compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine (diesel or semi-diesel engine) of an output over 375 kVA ($337M) emerged as the largest type of electric generating set and rotary converter exported from China, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by wind powered generating sets ($144M), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine, with an 18% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of electric generating sets with compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine (diesel or semi-diesel engine) of an output over 375 kVA totaled +17.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: wind powered generating sets (+8.6% per month) and electric generating sets with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine (-5.3% per month).

China Electric Generating Set And Rotary Converter Exports by Country

Nigeria (105K units), Poland (60K units) and Russia (53K units) were the main destinations of exports of electric generating sets and rotary converters from China, with a combined 32% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the United States, Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, Canada, Indonesia and Spain, which together accounted for a further 33%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Panama (with a CAGR of +28.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($237M) emerged as the key foreign market for electric generating set and rotary converter exports from China, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($33M), with a 4.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.1% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Russia stood at +37.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+12.7% per month) and Germany (+16.7% per month).
