In 2016, the amount of generator exported worldwide totaled 2.5M tonnes, increasing by 3% against the previous year figure. Overall, it indicated a strong growth from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, generator exports increased by +77.2% against its level of 2009. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when export increased by 21% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global generator exports reached its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, generator exports amounted to $22B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, global generator exports attained its maximum level of $29B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Generator Exports By Country

In 2016, China (600K tonnes), distantly followed by Germany (323K tonnes), Denmark (279K tonnes), Spain (228K tonnes), and the U.S. (221K tonnes) represented the major exporters of generator, together constituting 67% of total exports. The UK (85K tonnes), the Netherlands (76K tonnes), Italy (65K tonnes), Japan (62K tonnes), Singapore (58K tonnes), and France (39K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of generator exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Spain (+23.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest generator markets worldwide were China ($3.4B), Germany ($3.3B) and Denmark ($3.2B), with a combined 45% share of global exports. These countries were followed by the U.S., Spain, the UK, Japan, Italy, Singapore, France and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Spain (+11.2% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of generator exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Generator Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for generator amounted to $8,955 per tonne, coming down by -12.3% against the previous year. In general, generator export price continues to indicate a significant reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, when export increased by 15% y-o-y. Global generator export peaked of $14 per kg in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was the UK ($12 per kg), while the Netherlands ($3,559 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of generator export prices was attained by Japan (+3.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
