Cucumber and Gherkin Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average cucumber and gherkin import price stood at $1,524 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 29% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,102 per ton. From March 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Greece ($2,013 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,205 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cucumber and Gherkin Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
The average cucumber and gherkin export price stood at $925 per ton in 2022, which is down by -57.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 75% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,175 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($4,625 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($715 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cucumber and Gherkin Imports in the UK
In 2022, imports of cucumbers and gherkins into the UK skyrocketed to 202K tons, increasing by 19% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports surged to $306M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
