Cucumber Market - Spain Remains the Largest Exporter of Cucumbers and Gherkins in the World, with $595M in 2014

Spain continued its dominance in the global cucumber and gherkin trade. In 2014, Spain exported 572 thousand tonnes of cucumbers and gherkins totaling 595 million USD, 4% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global cucumber market was Germany, where it supplied 37.2% of its total cucumber and gherkin exports in value terms, accounting for 41.7% of Germany's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Spain was a net exporter of cucumbers and gherkins. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms this difference was even more pronounced.

The Netherlands and Mexico were among the other main global suppliers of cucumbers and gherkins in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Greece (+11.3% per year) and Belarus (+21.2% per year).

Spain's top 5 trading partners in 2014 were the aforementioned Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and Poland, with a combined 75.7% share of Spain's cucumber and gherkin exports. The share of Germany increased slightly (+2.1 percentage points), while the share of the United Kingdom illustrated minor negative dynamics (-2.9 percentage points).
