Cucumber and Gherkin Price in Slovakia (CIF) - 2023
The average cucumber and gherkin import price stood at $1,115 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 24% against the previous month. In general, the import price enjoyed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 31% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,194 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Turkey.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Germany amounted to +23.4% per month.
Cucumber and Gherkin Price in Slovakia (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average cucumber and gherkin export price amounted to $1,845 per ton, surging by 12% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,285 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($2,170 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($1,340 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Cucumber and Gherkin Imports in Slovakia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of cucumbers and gherkins, when their volume increased by 7.2% to 17K tons. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced contraction.
In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports rose notably to $21M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Cucumber and Gherkin Exports in Slovakia
In 2022, shipments abroad of cucumbers and gherkins decreased by -52.3% to 708 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
