Cucumber and Gherkin Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cucumber and gherkin import price amounted to $1,020 per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($2,947 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($711 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+30.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cucumber and Gherkin Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average cucumber and gherkin export price stood at $1,329 per ton in January 2022, growing by 2.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2021 when the average export price increased by 103% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,359 per ton in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to January 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,680 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($406 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cucumber and Gherkin Imports in Russia
For the third year in a row, Russia recorded decline in purchases abroad of cucumbers and gherkins, which decreased by -51.5% to 33K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic decline. The smallest decline of -9.9% was in 2021.
In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports contracted rapidly to $34M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of cucumbers and gherkins decreased by -66.1% to 9.7K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 830% against the previous year.
