Crude Soybean Oil Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
The average crude soybean oil export price stood at $1,131 per ton in 2022, waning by -8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 65%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,234 per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,497 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($770 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Soybean Oil Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average crude soybean oil import price amounted to $985 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,335 per ton), while the price for China ($658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Soybean Oil Exports in Vietnam
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of crude soybean oil decreased by -36.5% to 42K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 271% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 66K tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, crude soybean oil exports fell dramatically to $47M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 513% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $82M, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Crude Soybean Oil Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, overseas purchases of crude soybean oil decreased by -8.2% to 58K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 67K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude soybean oil imports reduced to $57M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34%.
