Cinnamon Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average cinnamon import price amounted to $5,252 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 19% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,711 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($10,997 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($4,823 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Cinnamon Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average cinnamon export price stood at $5,948 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -9.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $6,553 per ton in June 2023, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($10,142 per ton), while the average price for exports to Barbados ($3,860 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cinnamon Imports in the United States

For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of cinnamon (canella), which increased by 0.1% to 32K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.2%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cinnamon imports rose remarkably to $194M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Cinnamon Exports in the United States

In 2022, approx. 3.4K tons of cinnamon (canella) were exported from the United States; with an increase of 18% on the year before. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 19%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cinnamon exports rose sharply to $20M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
