Cigarettes Containing Tobacco Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average cigarettes containing tobacco export price stood at $19 per thousand units in 2022, reducing by -3.4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cigarettes containing tobacco export price increased by +67.9% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 28%. The export price peaked at $20 per thousand units in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($39,651 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($6,406 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritius (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cigarettes Containing Tobacco Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022
The average cigarettes containing tobacco import price stood at $8.8 per thousand units in 2022, picking up by 2.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $28 per thousand units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Suriname ($20,746 per thousand units), while the price for Portugal ($2,543 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cigarettes Containing Tobacco Exports in Kenya
Cigarettes containing tobacco exports from Kenya fell to 3.8B units in 2022, waning by -14.4% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 4.6B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cigarettes containing tobacco exports contracted dramatically to $73M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +26.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $88M, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
