Chocolate Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

The average chocolate export price stood at $3,903 per ton in December 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 when the average export price increased by 37% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,315 per ton. From October 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($6,451 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,805 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021

In December 2021, the average chocolate import price amounted to $5,277 per ton, waning by -9.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 an increase of 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5,813 per ton in November 2021, and then contracted in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($12,010 per ton), while the price for Australia ($2,746 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, the amount of chocolate and cocoa products exported from Malaysia declined to 76K tons, falling by -4.5% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year.

In value terms, chocolate exports fell to $266M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%.

Chocolate Imports in Malaysia

In value terms, chocolate imports declined to $143M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%.
