Chestnut Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average chestnut import price amounted to $1,546 per ton, waning by -26.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,093 per ton in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,444 per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($941 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bosnia and Herzegovina (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Chestnut Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average chestnut export price amounted to $5,450 per ton, rising by 33% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 218%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $7,445 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Romania.

From 2013 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Switzerland amounted to +62.2% per year.

Chestnut Imports in Hungary

In 2022, approx. 1.5K tons of chestnuts were imported into Hungary; picking up by 42% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chestnut imports expanded remarkably to $2.3M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump.

Chestnut Exports in Hungary

In 2022, approx. 476 kg of chestnuts were exported from Hungary; increasing by 406% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 3,275% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.1 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chestnut exports soared to $2.6K in 2022. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 10,139%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $7.6K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
