Carrot and Turnip Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021

The average carrot and turnip import price stood at $704 per ton in December 2021, rising by 15% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 22% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $709 per ton. From March 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($806 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $679 per ton.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Carrot and Turnip Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

In December 2021, the average carrot and turnip export price amounted to $546 per ton, jumping by 84% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, carrot and turnip export price increased by +83.6% against November 2021 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Singapore amounted to +4.6% per month.

Carrot and Turnip Imports in Malaysia

In 2022, the amount of carrots and turnips imported into Malaysia fell significantly to 67K tons, declining by -21% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports faced a drastic downturn. The smallest decline of -2.5% was in 2021.

In value terms, carrot and turnip imports contracted dramatically to $36M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $49M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Carrot and Turnip Exports in Malaysia

For the fourth year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in shipments abroad of carrots and turnips, which increased by 3% to 6.8K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, carrot and turnip exports reduced to $2.2M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 6%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $2.4M, and then dropped in the following year.
