Canned Vegetable Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average canned vegetable import price stood at $1,765 per ton in August 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.3% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,788 per ton in July 2023, and then contracted modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($2,550 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($1,198 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average canned vegetable export price amounted to $3,583 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $3,588 per ton in July 2023, and then shrank modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,856 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,113 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Imports in the UK
Canned vegetable imports into the UK soared to 781K tons in 2022, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports skyrocketed to $1.1B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. For the third year in a row, the UK recorded decline in shipments abroad of canned vegetables, which decreased by -1.9% to 83K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports contracted to $240M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt descent.
