Brown Rice Price in Myanmar (FOB) - 2022
In December 2022, the average brown rice export price amounted to $478 per ton, waning by -4.8% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a notable increase from December 2021 to December 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, brown rice export price decreased by -4.8% against November 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $526 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($485 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($360 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $677 per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $965 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Korea amounted to +6,507.4% per year.
Brown Rice Exports in Myanmar
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of husked (brown) rice, when their volume increased by 52% to 253K tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp curtailment.
In value terms, brown rice exports soared to $105M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a precipitous decline.
