Bottled Water Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022

The average bottled water export price stood at $0.3 per litre in 2022, dropping by -11.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $0.4 per litre in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($0.4 per litre), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates (less than $0.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Bottled Water Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average bottled water import price amounted to $0.7 per litre, surging by 5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $0.8 per litre. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2.5 per litre), while the price for Turkey ($0.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+26.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Bottled Water Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of bottled waters, when their volume increased by 10% to 61M litres. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The exports peaked at 72M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water exports contracted to $21M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 4.4%. The exports peaked at $23M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Bottled Water Imports in Malaysia

In 2022, approx. 11M litres of bottled waters were imported into Malaysia; reducing by -15.1% against the year before. In general, imports showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13M litres, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, bottled water imports shrank to $8.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $9.2M, and then declined in the following year.
