Banana and Plantain Price in Denmark (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average banana and plantain import price amounted to $1,112 per ton, surging by 2.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 20% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,159 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($1,424 per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($861 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana and Plantain Price in Denmark (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average banana and plantain export price amounted to $1,164 per ton, with an increase of 5% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 7.5% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,211 per ton in May 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($1,793 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,078 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Banana and Plantain Imports in Denmark
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of bananas and plantains, when their volume decreased by -1.3% to 82K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 9.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 83K tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, banana and plantain imports declined modestly to $82M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 17%.
