Which Country Imports the Most Cement Plates in the World?

In 2016, approx. 66K tonnes of cement plate were imported worldwide; lowering by -1.7% against the previous year level. Overall, cement plate imports continue to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, when imports increased by 14% from the previous year level. In that year, global cement plate imports attained its maximum volume of 86K tonnes. From 2009 to 2016, growth of global cement plate imports failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, cement plate imports amounted to $5.9B in 2016. In general, cement plate imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global cement plate import peaked of $7.4B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Cement Plate Imports By Country

The UK (7.8K tonnes), the Netherlands (7.3K tonnes), and China (6.9K tonnes) represented roughly 33% of total imports of cement plate in 2016. Israel (4.2K tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by India (3.7K tonnes), and Japan (3.4K tonnes). All these countries together occupied near 17% share of total imports. The following importers - Austria (2.7K tonnes), the U.S. (2.7K tonnes), Germany (2.5K tonnes), Luxembourg (2.3K tonnes), Malaysia (2.3K tonnes), and Sweden (2.1K tonnes) together made up 22% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of cement plate imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the UK (+25.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cement plate markets worldwide were the U.S. ($783M), Germany ($734M) and the Netherlands ($690M), with a combined 38% share of global imports.Japan, China, India, the UK, Austria, Sweden, Israel, Luxembourg and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

India (+11.8% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of cement plate imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Plate Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for cement plate amounted to $89 per kg, reducing by -5.2% against the previous year. Overall, it indicated a mild increase from 2007 to 2016: the import price value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, cement plate import price decreased by -25.8% against its level of 2013. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 33% against the previous year level. Global cement plate import peaked of $120 per kg in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($292 per kg), while Israel ($7,307 per tonne) was among the lowest.
