Which Country Exports the Most Synthetic Organic Coloring Matter and Pigments in the World?

In 2016, approx. 1.6M tonnes of organic pigments were exported worldwide; stabilizing at the previous year level. In general, organic pigments exports continue to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, an increase of 15% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global organic pigments exports attained its maximum volume of 1.8M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, organic pigments exports totaled $11B in 2016. In general, organic pigments exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global organic pigments export peaked of $13B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Organic Pigments Exports By Country

In 2016, China (454K tonnes), and India (382K tonnes) were the key exporters of organic pigments in the globe, together achieving 51% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (167K tonnes), and Spain (95K tonnes), together generating 16% share of total organic pigments exports. South Korea (60K tonnes), Italy (47K tonnes), Indonesia (44K tonnes), Singapore (42K tonnes), Belgium (41K tonnes), the UK (30K tonnes), and Thailand (28K tonnes) took the slight share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of organic pigments exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by India (+7.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest organic pigments markets worldwide were China ($2.7B), India ($1.8B) and Germany ($1.4B), together comprising 52% of global exports.South Korea, Belgium, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, the UK, Italy and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Thailand (+11.3% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to the organic pigments exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Organic Pigments Export Prices By Country

The average organic pigments export price stood at $6,966 per tonne in 2016, lowering by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when export price increased by 10% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, average organic pigments export price reached its maximum level of $7,731 per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Belgium ($11 per kg), while Spain ($3,108 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of organic pigments export prices was attained by Thailand (+9.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
