Which Country Exports the Most Synthetic Organic Coloring Matter and Pigments in the World?

In 2016, the amount of organic pigments imported worldwide amounted to 1.5M tonnes, waning by -10.9% against the previous year level. In general, organic pigments imports continue to indicate a temperate deduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when it surged by 18% against the previous year level. Global organic pigments import peaked of 1.9M tonnes in 2007- however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, organic pigments imports totaled $12B in 2016. Overall, organic pigments imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global organic pigments imports reached its maximum level of $14B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Organic Pigments Imports By Country

In 2016, Germany (147K tonnes), followed by Turkey (90K tonnes), Italy (83K tonnes), and Indonesia (75K tonnes) were the largest importers of organic pigments, together constituting 26% of total imports. The following importers - Pakistan (59K tonnes), South Korea (58K tonnes), China (56K tonnes), Spain (52K tonnes), Japan (51K tonnes), India (51K tonnes), Belgium (50K tonnes), and France (48K tonnes) together made up 29% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of organic pigments imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Pakistan (+5.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($978M), South Korea ($825M) and China ($747M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, with a combined 22% share of global imports.Turkey, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, France, Belgium, India, Spain and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

India (+8.1% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of organic pigments imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Organic Pigments Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for organic pigments amounted to $7,880 per tonne, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%.The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when it surged by 12% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average organic pigments import price reached its maximum level in 2016, and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was South Korea ($14 per kg), while Pakistan ($3,815 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of organic pigments import prices was attained by South Korea (+9.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
