Which Country Exports the Most Sausages and Similar Meat Products in the World?

In 2016, the amount of sausage exported worldwide totaled 1.3M tonnes, rising by 3% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, an increase of 10% against the previous year level. Global sausage export peaked of 1.3M tonnes in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2016.

In value terms, sausage exports totaled $4.5B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, global sausage exports attained its maximum level of $5.3B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Sausage Exports By Country

In 2016, the U.S. (155K tonnes), and Germany (151K tonnes) were the major exporters of sausage in the globe, together generating 24% of total exports. Poland (88K tonnes) ranks second globally in sausage exports with a 7% share, following Brazil (7%), Spain (6%), and Italy (5%). The Netherlands (56K tonnes), Austria (49K tonnes), Belgium (49K tonnes), France (45K tonnes), Belarus (37K tonnes), and Denmark (36K tonnes) occupied the mild share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sausage exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Poland (+14.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($676M), the U.S. ($548M) and Italy ($462M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together comprising 37% of global exports.Spain, Poland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Brazil and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Poland (+14.3% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of sausage exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sausage Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for sausage amounted to $3,554 per tonne, remaining constant against the previous year level. In general, sausage export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, when export increased by 12% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, average sausage export price reached its maximum level of $4,118 per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Italy ($6,956 per tonne), while Brazil ($1,141 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sausage export prices was attained by Belarus (+3.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
