In 2016, the amount of ceramic sanitary ware exported worldwide stood at 1.8M tonnes, increasing by 4% against the previous year figure. In general, ceramic sanitary ware exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when exports increased by 6% against the previous year level. Global ceramic sanitary ware export peaked of 1.9M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports totaled $6.4B in 2016. In general, ceramic sanitary ware exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. Global ceramic sanitary ware export peaked of $7.9B in 2015, falling back in the following year.

Ceramic Sanitary Ware Exports By Country

In 2016, Mexico (348K tonnes), distantly followed by China (147K tonnes), India (136K tonnes), Turkey (128K tonnes), and Portugal (94K tonnes) represented the main exporters of ceramic sanitary ware, together generating 46% of total exports. Germany (83K tonnes), Thailand (81K tonnes), Poland (80K tonnes), Bulgaria (55K tonnes), United Arab Emirates (52K tonnes), Italy (50K tonnes), and the U.S. (45K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, India (+12.4%), Germany (+3.0%), United Arab Emirates (+2.8%), and Thailand (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2007-2016. Turkey, Bulgaria, and Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the U.S. (-1.1%), Portugal (-2.0%), China (-6.2%), and Italy (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of China, and Italy increased by 6%, and 2% percentage points, while India (-4.8%), and Mexico (-5.6%) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($3B) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in the world, making up 47% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($465M), with the share of 7% of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with the share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of ceramic sanitary ware exports in China expanded at +17.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: Mexico (+1.8% per year) and Germany (+1.0% per year).

Ceramic Sanitary Ware Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for ceramic sanitary ware amounted to $3,486 per tonne, waning by -22.4% against the previous year. Overall, it indicated a strong growth from 2007 to 2016: the export price value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013, when export increased by 28% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average ceramic sanitary ware export price attained its maximum level of $4,492 per tonne in 2015, falling back in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was China ($20 per kg), while India ($742 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of ceramic sanitary ware export prices was attained by China (+24.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
