Ceramic Sanitary Ware Market Size in Malaysia

In 2020, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Malaysian ceramic sanitary ware market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated a moderate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. In 2020, overseas shipments of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures increased by X% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Australia (X units), Singapore (X units) and the U.S. (X units) were the main destinations of ceramic sanitary ware exports from Malaysia, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Iraq, the Netherlands and Fiji, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in South Korea (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the key foreign market for ceramic sanitary ware exports from Malaysia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Singapore ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the U.S., with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Australia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

The average ceramic sanitary ware export price stood at $X per unit in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2019, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures decreased by -X% to X units for the first time since 2009, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports fell notably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2020, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic sanitary ware to Malaysia, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic sanitary ware imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X units), more than tenfold. Thailand (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
