Which Country Consumes the Most Virgin Olive Oil in the World?
Global virgin olive oil consumption amounted to X thousand tonnes in 2015, coming up by +X% against the previous year level. Overall, the global virgin olive oil consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when the output figure increased by +X% from the previous year level. In that year, the global virgin olive oil consumption attained its maximum volume of X thousand tonnes. From 2014 to 2015, the total virgin olive oil consumption growth failed to regain its strength.

Global Virgin Olive Oil Consumption
With nearly X thousand tonnes, Spain became the world’s leading virgin olive oil consuming country, comprising X% of global consumption. The other major consumers were Italy (X thousand tonnes) and Tunisia (X thousand tonnes), with a share of X% and X%, respectively. Moreover, virgin olive oil consumption in Spain surpassed the figures recorded by Italy more than tenfold. They were followed by Greece with a X% of global consumption share and Morocco with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of virgin olive oil consumption in Spain stood at +X%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Italy (-X% per year) and Tunisia (-X% per year).
Per capita virgin olive oil in Spain was estimated at X kg/year, much higher than the global average of X kg/year. Spain was the leading country in terms of per capita consumption, among the main consumers of virgin olive oil, followed by Tunisia (X kg/year), Greece (X kg/year), Morocco (X kg/year) and Italy (X kg/year).
In Spain, per capita virgin olive oil consumption has grown noticably (+X% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Spain per capita consumption reached X kg/year as compared with X kg/year in 2007.
