Italy's Concrete Reinforcing Bar Price Falls to $825 per Ton

Italy Concrete Reinforcing Bar Export Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the concrete reinforcing bar price amounted to $825 per ton (FOB, Italy), which is down by -3.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 18% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,230 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to February 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In February 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Spain ($1,020 per ton) and France ($882 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($706 per ton) and Greece ($713 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cyprus (-1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Italy Concrete Reinforcing Bar Exports

Concrete reinforcing bar exports from Italy rose remarkably to 119K tons in February 2023, increasing by 14% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when exports increased by 62% month-to-month.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar exports rose rapidly to $99M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 with an increase of 67% month-to-month.

Italy Concrete Reinforcing Bar Exports by Country

Germany (24K tons), France (17K tons) and the Czech Republic (10K tons) were the main destinations of concrete reinforcing bar exports from Italy, together comprising 43% of total exports. Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cyprus (with a CAGR of +2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($21M), France ($15M) and the Czech Republic ($7.6M) constituted the largest markets for concrete reinforcing bar exported from Italy worldwide, together comprising 44% of total exports. Spain, Switzerland, Croatia, Hungary, Cyprus, Poland, Greece, Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

Cyprus, with a CAGR of +1.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
