U.S. Concrete Reinforcing Bar Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the concrete reinforcing bar price amounted to $666 per ton (CIF, US), which is down by -9.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,062 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,065 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($481 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

U.S. Concrete Reinforcing Bar Imports
In June 2023, concrete reinforcing bar imports into the United States surged to 212K tons, growing by 147% on May 2023. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar imports surged to $141M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate slight growth.
U.S. Concrete Reinforcing Bar Imports by Country
In June 2023, Algeria (94K tons) constituted the largest concrete reinforcing bar supplier to the United States, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete reinforcing bar imports from Algeria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (34K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (30K tons), with a 14% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Algeria stood at +8.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Egypt (+41.4% per month) and Turkey (+0.9% per month).
In value terms, Algeria ($60M) constituted the largest supplier of concrete reinforcing bar to the United States, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($22M), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 14% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Algeria totaled +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Egypt (+44.5% per month) and Turkey (-1.6% per month).
