Frozen Crustacean Price in India Stands at $7,722 per Ton
India Frozen Crustaceans Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the frozen crustaceans price amounted to $7,722 per ton (FOB, India), approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 1.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $8,053 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In September 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($9,183 per ton) and Canada ($8,983 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($6,288 per ton) and China ($6,513 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
India Frozen Crustaceans Exports
In September 2022, overseas shipments of frozen crustaceans decreased by -14.5% to 51K tons, falling for the second month in a row after five months of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated perceptible growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -27.1% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 32% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 71K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen crustaceans exports fell to $397M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, total exports indicated tangible growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -25.3% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 29% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 532K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
India Frozen Crustaceans Exports by Country
The United States (17K tons) was the main destination for frozen crustaceans exports from India, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen crustaceans exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (6.9K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Japan (4.3K tons), with an 8.4% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (+2.6% per month) and Japan (+13.3% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($144M) remains the key foreign market for frozen crustaceans exports from India, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($45M), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (+2.7% per month) and Japan (+13.8% per month).
