Waferboard Market Size

The global waferboard market reduced slightly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -2.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The shipments of the four major exporters of waferboards, namely Thailand, Austria, Germany and Russia, represented more than third of total export. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X cubic meters), generating a 4.6% share of total exports. Belgium (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Canada (X cubic meters) and Romania (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +22.2%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 32% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Russia, France, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Canada, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Romania, which together accounted for a further 38%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +23.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average waferboard export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while Thailand ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.6%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports by Country

Germany (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) represented roughly 18% of total imports in 2021. The United States (X cubic meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.2% share, followed by South Korea (4.7%). Italy (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters), China (X cubic meters), Austria (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters), Malaysia (X cubic meters), Kazakhstan (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters) and Spain (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Italy, France, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK, China, Spain, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Among the main importing countries, China, with a CAGR of +18.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average waferboard import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, surging by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per cubic meter), while South Korea ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
