Waferboard Market Size in the United Arab Emirates

The waferboard market in the United Arab Emirates soared to $X in 2021, jumping by 67% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption saw a resilient increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates

In 2021, overseas shipments of waferboards decreased by -3.6% to X cubic meters, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 1,750% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, waferboard exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 1,643% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Oman (X cubic meters) was the main destination for waferboard exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, waferboard exports to Oman exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tajikistan (X cubic meters), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Gambia (X cubic meters), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Oman totaled +13.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (+551.9% per year) and Gambia (+99.7% per year).

In value terms, Oman ($X) remains the key foreign market for waferboards exports from the United Arab Emirates, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Oman amounted to +14.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+42.6% per year) and Tajikistan (+44.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average waferboard export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Gambia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+93.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Waferboard Imports

Imports into the United Arab Emirates

In 2021, imports of waferboards into the United Arab Emirates skyrocketed to X cubic meters, growing by 46% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, waferboard imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a buoyant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X cubic meters), Thailand (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of waferboard imports to the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 38% share of total imports. Austria, Romania, Italy, Spain, Malaysia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +57.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest waferboard suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 31% share of total imports. Italy, Germany, Romania, Spain, Malaysia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Romania, with a CAGR of +58.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average waferboard import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Thailand ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
