The global asbestos market declined to $X in 2020, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Production By Country

The country with the largest volume of asbestos production was Russia (X tonnes), accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, asbestos production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kazakhstan (X tonnes), threefold. Brazil (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In Russia, asbestos production contracted by an average annual rate of -X% over the period from 2007-2020. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Kazakhstan (-X% per year) and Brazil (-X% per year).

In 2020, shipments abroad of asbestos decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2015, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Global exports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, asbestos exports expanded notably to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. from 2013 to 2020, the growth of global exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2020, Russia (X tonnes) represented the key exporter of asbestos, comprising X% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tonnes) took a X% share (based on tonnes) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (X%). China (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of asbestos. At the same time, China (+X%) and Kazakhstan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. By contrast, Brazil (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+X p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -X% from 2007 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per tonne) and China ($X per tonne), while Kazakhstan ($X per tonne) and Brazil ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

By contrast, China (-X%), Viet Nam (-X%) and Thailand (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+X p.p.), Uzbekistan (+X p.p.), Indonesia (+X p.p.), Bangladesh (+X p.p.), Romania (+X p.p.) and Sri Lanka (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2007-2020, the share of Viet Nam (-X p.p.), Thailand (-X p.p.) and China (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.
