The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 193% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Nigeria (X square meters) represented the major exporter of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings, creating 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X square meters), Gambia (X square meters), Ghana (X square meters), Niger (X square meters) and Togo (X square meters), together mixing up a 45% share of total exports. Benin (X square meters) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to tufted carpet exports from Nigeria stood at -11.2%. At the same time, Senegal (+21.9%), Gambia (+16.2%) and Niger (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria totaled -12.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+13.4% per year) and Gambia (+13.4% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per square meter, rising by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per square meter), while Ghana ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, tufted carpet imports in Western Africa expanded modestly to X square meters, growing by 4.6% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, tufted carpet imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to tufted carpet imports into Ghana stood at +22.6%. At the same time, Liberia (+25.3%), Guinea (+20.2%), Benin (+13.9%), Mauritania (+10.8%), Mali (+8.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +25.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Sierra Leone (-1.4%), Nigeria (-3.5%) and Senegal (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ghana, Guinea and Liberia increased by +34, +2.7 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
