The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X square meters) and Belgium (X square meters) prevails in exports structure, together making up 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), generating a 7.1% share of total exports. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, Germany (X square meters), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters), Poland (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) represented the largest importers of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings, together achieving 76% of total imports. Sweden (X square meters), Ireland (X square meters), Hungary (X square meters), Slovakia (X square meters), Austria (X square meters) and Romania (X square meters) took a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings in the European Union, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 7.4% share.

In Germany, tufted carpet imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+0.8% per year) and Spain (+9.3% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 4.9%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per square meter), while the Czech Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
