As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, motorcycle, scooter and side-car exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

India (X units) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2021.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the motorcycles, scooters and side-cars exports, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest motorcycle, scooter and side-car supplier in Southern Asia.

Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motorcycle, scooter and side-car imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -32.7% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Nepal represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 40% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X units), India (X units), Sri Lanka (X units) and Afghanistan (X units), together comprising a 55% share of total imports. Pakistan (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +37.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest motorcycle, scooter and side-car importing markets in Southern Asia were Nepal ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +15.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 11%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Nepal ($X per unit), while Afghanistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
