In general, exports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 77%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene binder exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 80%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the key exporter of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 55% of total exports in 2022. Tanzania (X tons) held a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Zimbabwe (15%). Namibia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines. At the same time, Namibia (+21.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012-2022. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest polyethylene binder supplier in SADC, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 17% share.
In South Africa, polyethylene binder exports plunged by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (-3.5% per year) and Zimbabwe (-13.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -6.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 14%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Zimbabwe ($X per ton) and South Africa ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) and Tanzania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, polyethylene binder imports in SADC shrank to X tons, dropping by -6.2% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
South Africa represented the main importer of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 64% of total imports in 2022. Mozambique (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Angola (6.6%). Namibia (X tons), Madagascar (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyethylene binder imports into South Africa stood at +7.0%. At the same time, Mozambique (+49.2%), Mauritius (+36.1%), Namibia (+16.6%) and Angola (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +49.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Madagascar (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mozambique (+18 p.p.), Namibia (+1.8 p.p.) and Mauritius (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Angola (-3.5 p.p.) and Madagascar (-4.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines in SADC, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 4.1% share.
In South Africa, polyethylene binder imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mozambique (+32.8% per year) and Namibia (+9.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 7.5% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Madagascar (+16.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
