The SADC escalator market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa represented the key exporter of escalators and moving WalkWays in SADC, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Botswana (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X units). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Angola (X units), Mozambique (X units), Namibia (X units) and Swaziland (X units) - each recorded a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to escalator exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Botswana (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Escalator imports skyrocketed to X units in 2022, with an increase of X% compared with the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, escalator imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the largest importer of escalators and moving WalkWays, mixing up X% of total imports.
