Wrapping Papers Market Size in the Russian Federation

In 2020, the Russian wrapping papers market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports declined sharply to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes), Belarus (X tonnes) and Italy (X tonnes) were the main destinations of wrapping papers exports from Russia, with a combined X% share of total exports. Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Mexico, Lithuania, Sri Lanka, Viet Nam and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Lithuania, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Lithuania, Romania, Viet Nam and Sri Lanka, which together accounted for a further X saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average wrapping papers export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard were imported into Russia; with a decrease of -X% against 2019 figures. Overall, imports recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2020. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Sweden (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping papers to Russia, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, wrapping papers imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Finland (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belarus (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Sweden stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+X% per year) and Belarus (-X% per year).

In 2020, the average wrapping papers import price amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the price for Belarus ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
