India was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), comprising a 23% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +39.1% from 2012-2021. Thailand and Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.2%) and Vietnam (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, the Philippines and Belgium increased by +12, +2.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre supplying countries from Puerto Rico were India ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and Kenya ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports. Brazil, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The following importers - the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Germany (X tons), Morocco (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Canada (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre imports into China stood at +2.4%. At the same time, the Philippines (+73.2%), Morocco (+24.4%), the United Arab Emirates (+11.8%), the UK (+11.2%), the Netherlands (+8.7%), Canada (+8.2%), the United States (+8.0%), Mexico (+7.8%), Germany (+6.7%) and Spain (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +73.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States, the UK, the Philippines and Morocco increased by +2.2, +2.1, +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres into Puerto Rico, comprising 34% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 10% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.8% share.
