In 2022, overseas shipments of paper knives increased by 29% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
Brazil represented the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 65% of total exports. Peru (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Venezuela (11%). Colombia (X units) and Chile (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -8.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Venezuela (+26.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Peru (-3.1%), Colombia (-19.9%) and Chile (-22.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Venezuela (+10 p.p.), Peru (+7.2 p.p.) and Brazil (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia and Chile saw its share reduced by -10.1% and -12.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest paper knife supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 5.7% share.
In Brazil, paper knife exports plunged by an average annual rate of -8.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (-4.7% per year) and Colombia (-20.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Venezuela (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of paper knives, when their volume increased by 44% to X units. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Brazil (X units), distantly followed by Colombia (X units), Chile (X units), Peru (X units) and Argentina (X units) were the main importers of paper knives, together making up 90% of total imports. Ecuador (X units) and Venezuela (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
