Gym and fitness equipment exports totaled X tons in 2021, increasing by 2.1% on 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, gym and fitness equipment exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by +0.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 42%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the largest exporter of gym and fitness equipment, generating 50% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (16%), Oman (6.5%) and Iran (5.3%). The following exporters - Israel (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) - each amounted to a 4.4% share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+77.8%), Israel (+25.2%), Iran (+12.4%), Lebanon (+10.6%) and Tunisia (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +77.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Oman (+6.4 p.p.), Turkey (+2.4 p.p.), Iran (+2.4 p.p.) and Israel (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -11.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest gym and fitness equipment supplier in MENA, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with an 11% share.
In Turkey, gym and fitness equipment exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+6.1% per year) and Tunisia (+9.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, gym and fitness equipment export price decreased by -19.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MENA
Gym and fitness equipment imports rose slightly to X tons in 2021, increasing by 4.8% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, gym and fitness equipment imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the key importers of gym and fitness equipment in 2021, recording near 22% and 19% of total imports, respectively. Turkey (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (9.1%), Morocco (6.5%), Iraq (4.7%) and Kuwait (4.5%). The following importers - Qatar (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Oman (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +16.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 54% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Oman, Jordan and Iran, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Among the main importing countries, Algeria, with a CAGR of +13.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
