Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +12.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 61%. The shipments of the three major exporters of glass fibre mats, namely the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Turkey (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Tunisia (12%). The following exporters - Iran (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - each recorded a 3.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of glass fibre mats, when their volume decreased by -4.1% to X tons. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibre mat imports declined to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey was the main importer of glass fibre mats in MENA, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 39% of total imports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports. Egypt (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons), Israel (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glass fibre mats imports, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Yemen (+14.2%), Israel (+9.8%), Oman (+9.6%), Tunisia (+6.0%), Bahrain (+4.5%), Morocco (+3.6%), Egypt (+3.2%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Qatar (-1.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey increased by +23 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glass fibre mats in MENA, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 11% share.

In Turkey, glass fibre mat imports increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-1.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-1.6% per year).
