In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of glass fibre mats, when their volume decreased by -36% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 226%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibre mat imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 267%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibre mat supplier to Egypt, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre mat imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bahrain (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Saudi Arabia amounted to +20.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bahrain (+9.8% per year) and France (+68.8% per year).

In value terms, Bahrain ($X), France ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest glass fibre mat suppliers to Egypt, with a combined 50% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +74.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average glass fibre mat import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
