In value terms, molluscs exports contracted to $X in 2023. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Peru represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together generating a X% share of total exports. Uruguay (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Peru decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Uruguay (X%) and Argentina (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Chile (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Argentina (X p.p.) and Uruguay (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Chile (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the largest molluscs supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a X% share.
In Peru, molluscs exports declined by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (X% per year) and Chile (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a mild slump. In 2023, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after six years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, molluscs imports dropped slightly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of molluscs imports in 2023 were Mexico (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together reaching X% of total import. The Dominican Republic (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (X%), Panama (X%), Chile (X%) and Guatemala (X%).
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total imports. The Dominican Republic, Chile, Guatemala, Peru and Panama lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Panama, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, molluscs import price increased by X% against 2021 indices.
