Potato Market Size in Kazakhstan

Imports into Kazakhstan

Potato imports into Kazakhstan totaled X tonnes in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, potato imports, however, continue to indicate an abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, potato imports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, potato imports amounted to $X in 2018. In general, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. In 2018, Pakistan (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Kazakhstan, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, potato imports from Pakistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kyrgyzstan (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by China (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Pakistan totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (-X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest potato suppliers to Kazakhstan were Kyrgyzstan ($X), Pakistan ($X) and China ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, potato import price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average import prices for potatoes reached their maximum at $X per tonne in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Russia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
