Hop Market Size in India

In 2020, the Indian hop market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, posted a slight expansion. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Bhutan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Nepal totaled $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal.

In 2020, overseas purchases of hops decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. from 2019 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hop imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest hop supplier to India, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, hop imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the U.S. (X tonnes), sixfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the U.S. (-X% per year) and Belgium (+X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hop to India, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the U.S. ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the U.S. (+X% per year) and Belgium (+X% per year).

The average hop import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
