In 2021, after five years of growth, there was decline in the Indian cinnamon market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a significant increase. Cinnamon consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

The United States (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes) and Canada (X tonnes) were the main destinations of cinnamon exports from India, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, Poland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Tanzania and Spain, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Tanzania (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for cinnamon exported from India worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average cinnamon export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

In 2021, cinnamon imports into India declined to X tonnes, falling by -X% on 2020. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

The third position in this ranking was occupied by Indonesia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Vietnam totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+X% per year) and Indonesia (+X% per year).
