Exports in the EU

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of cinnamon (canella) increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cinnamon exports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tonnes, which reached X% of total exports. Germany (X tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Spain (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Poland (X tonnes). All these countries together occupied near X% share of total exports. Austria (X tonnes), the Czech Republic (X tonnes) and Sweden (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the Czech Republic, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cinnamon supplying countries in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main exporting countries, Poland saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the cinnamon export price in the European Union amounted to $X per tonne, surging by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, cinnamon export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
