Other Papers Packaging Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe other papers packaging market increased by 2.7% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other papers packaging production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of other papers packaging, when their volume decreased by -10.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, other papers packaging exports totaled $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.1% against 2019 indices. The following exporters - Russia (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Portugal (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 19% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest other papers packaging supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Finland ($X), with a combined 57% share of total exports. France, Spain, Sweden, Russia, the UK, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belarus, Poland and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +32.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, other papers packaging imports in Europe fell modestly to X tons, shrinking by -3.7% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other papers packaging imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the six major importers of other papers packaging, namely Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, France and the UK, represented more than half of total import. Sweden (X tons), Denmark (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
