In 2022, the EU other papers packaging market increased by 3.3% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other papers packaging production dropped slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Exports in the EU

In 2022, shipments abroad of other papers packaging decreased by -10.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 10% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, other papers packaging exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the key exporters of other papers packaging, together constituting 84% of total exports. The following exporters - Sweden (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest other papers packaging supplying countries in the European Union were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Finland ($X), together accounting for 62% of total exports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +8.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Sweden ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, approx. X tons of other papers packaging were imported in the European Union; shrinking by -1.5% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, other papers packaging imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The purchases of the five major importers of other papers packaging, namely Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland and France, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), committing a 4.9% share of total imports. Denmark (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Greece (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Denmark ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
