Other Papers Packaging Exports

Exports from the Netherlands

In 2022, shipments abroad of other papers packaging decreased by -34.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, posted moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, other papers packaging exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 123% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of other papers packaging exports from the Netherlands, together accounting for 54% of total exports. Poland, Belgium, Spain, France, Turkey and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +44.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest markets for other papers packaging exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together accounting for 49% of total exports. In 2022, approx. X tons of other papers packaging were imported into the Netherlands; dropping by -8.7% on the previous year. In general, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +8.8% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 69%.
