Agglomerated Dolomite Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe agglomerated dolomite market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -10.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

Agglomerated dolomite exports rose modestly to X tons in 2022, surging by 2.6% against 2021. In general, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 57%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 113%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) represented the main exporter of agglomerated dolomite, making up 40% of total exports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Lithuania (14%) and France (9.1%). Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +81.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest agglomerated dolomite supplier in Europe, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 4.5% share.

In Italy, agglomerated dolomite exports increased at an average annual rate of +80.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+11.2% per year) and Austria (+15.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -14.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 47%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+13.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of agglomerated dolomite imported in Europe contracted to X tons, reducing by -8.1% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 54%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands represented the main importer of agglomerated dolomite in Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2022. Slovenia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.5% share, followed by Russia (5.9%), France (5.8%), Ireland (5.7%), Greece (5.7%), Germany (5.6%) and Belgium (4.6%). The following importers - the Czech Republic (X tons), Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Italy (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to agglomerated dolomite imports into the Netherlands stood at +39.7%. At the same time, Ireland (+1,053.7%), Greece (+107.5%), Switzerland (+26.0%), France (+24.2%), Slovenia (+23.7%), the Czech Republic (+13.8%), Russia (+10.9%), Germany (+5.6%), Spain (+4.7%) and Belgium (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +1,053.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-2.9%) and Italy (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+29 p.p.), Slovenia (+6.3 p.p.), Ireland (+5.7 p.p.), Greece (+5.7 p.p.), France (+4 p.p.) and Switzerland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Spain (-2.3 p.p.), Germany (-3.4 p.p.), Belgium (-3.7 p.p.), Lithuania (-7.5 p.p.) and Italy (-11.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Greece ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 32% share of total imports. France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Italy and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.

Among the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +703.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
