The countries with the highest volumes of consumption in 2022 were China (484K tons), the United Arab Emirates (444K tons) and Saudi Arabia (415K tons), together comprising 79% of global consumption.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +4.8%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($105M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($10M). It was followed by the United Arab Emirates.

In China, the agglomerated dolomite market remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+0.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-11.9% per year).

In 2022, the highest levels of agglomerated dolomite per capita consumption was registered in the United Arab Emirates (44 kg per person), followed by Saudi Arabia (12 kg per person), Thailand (1.8 kg per person) and Iran (0.4 kg per person), while the world average per capita consumption of agglomerated dolomite was estimated at 0.2 kg per person.

In the United Arab Emirates, agglomerated dolomite per capita consumption decreased by an average annual rate of -14.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+2.6% per year) and Thailand (+1.9% per year).

Production

World Production of Agglomerated Dolomite

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in production of agglomerated dolomite, when its volume decreased by -12.1% to 3.9M tons. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 4.4M tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite production declined modestly to $206M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production attained the maximum level at $230M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Production By Country

The United Arab Emirates (2.6M tons) remains the largest agglomerated dolomite producing country worldwide, accounting for 68% of total volume. Moreover, agglomerated dolomite production in the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (484K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Saudi Arabia (415K tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in the United Arab Emirates totaled +1.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+0.0% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+1.8% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Agglomerated Dolomite

In 2022, supplies from abroad of agglomerated dolomite decreased by -27.3% to 103K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 105%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 323K tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite imports declined rapidly to $17M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. Global imports peaked at $30M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of agglomerated dolomite imports in 2022 were South Africa (25K tons), India (17K tons) and Paraguay (12K tons), together finishing at 53% of total import. The Netherlands (7.7K tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (7.3K tons). All these countries together held approx. 15% share of total imports. Oman (4.1K tons), the United Arab Emirates (2.8K tons), Costa Rica (2.6K tons) and Nepal (1.6K tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Costa Rica (with a CAGR of +91.0%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest agglomerated dolomite importing markets worldwide were India ($1.4M), South Africa ($1.4M) and Kuwait ($1.1M), together accounting for 23% of global imports. Paraguay, the Netherlands, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Costa Rica and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +92.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average agglomerated dolomite import price stood at $168 per ton in 2022, growing by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 82%. Global import price peaked at $291 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($150 per ton), while South Africa ($54 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.3%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.

Exports

World Exports of Agglomerated Dolomite

In 2022, the amount of agglomerated dolomite exported worldwide fell to 2.3M tons, waning by -10.7% on the previous year. Overall, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 148%. The global exports peaked at 2.5M tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite exports shrank dramatically to $42M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 148%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at $127M in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports By Country

The United Arab Emirates (2.2M tons) represented roughly 96% of total exports in 2022.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the agglomerated dolomite exports, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +18 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($26M) also remains the largest agglomerated dolomite supplier worldwide.

Export Prices By Country

The average agglomerated dolomite export price stood at $18 per ton in 2022, which is down by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 208%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $183 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.
